Mary Lou (Cook) Moore
Mary Lou (Cook) Moore
1932-2021
Blythedale, MO: Mary Lou (Cook) Moore, age 89, died peacefully on Saturday, December 11 th ,
2021 in her lifelong home in Blythedale, MO.
She was born in Blythedale on April 20 th , 1932 as the youngest daughter to Nanny and Lewis
(Babe) Cook. In 1950, she graduated from the old high school.
Thereafter, she moved to Kansas City with her friend, Della. She worked at Sears Roebuck
Co., and as a typesetter for the Blue Springs Sentinel. While at Sears, she met John Barry
Moore. They were married on January 3 rd of 1953, and had two children, Kim Alan Moore and
Sheila Ann Cracraft. She served as president of the American Legion’s Women’s Auxiliary Post
499.
Moving the family back to Blythedale in 1985 to care for her sister and nephew, Mary saw
that the town had inevitably changed. However, her passion for the place firmly remained. One
of her proudest achievements was her service as a member on the community club. And, as her
ever-reliable church chauffeurs know, she was a proud and devoted congregant of the Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Church No. II. In 1989, Mary and John opened a grocery store, serving deli
sandwiches and supplying hardware items to Blythedale and beyond.
As with her community, Mary extended the same care and graciousness to her family and
friends. She especially loved all of her grandchildren, and they loved going to grandma’s house.
She had no difficulty recruiting them to help pick apples, for it was always in return for a jar of
her one-of-a-kind apple butter, a staple for many a grand and great-grandchild. Her love and
adoration of family and friends was evident in her affection in speaking with them and holding
them. Her presence a true grace, she will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to
call her family and friend, all of whom had the blessing of knowing her incomparable
generosity, her enduring love, and her warm compassion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Bud, Rob, Buzz, Andy,
and Terry; her sisters, Hazel, Helen, and Nadine; her sister-in-law Kathy, and brother-in-law Rex.
Mary is survived by her children, son, Kim (Susie) and daughter, Sheila of Blythedale; by six
grandchildren, Charles (Mackenzie) Moore, Robin (Chris) Stallings, Matthew Moore, Bobbie
Moore, John (Raven) Parker and Mary Bethel (Elijah) Carpenter; by seven great-grandchildren;
by brothers-in-law, Mike and Bill; by sisters-in-law, Helen June and Carolyn; and by numerous
nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18 at Roberson Funeral
