Shelly Lynn Greenland, age 55, of Decatur, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Franklin and Darlene Mae (Cooper) Greenland, was born March 3, 1966, in Des Moines, Iowa. She left this life on August 28, 2021, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston, Iowa surrounded by family.

Shelly grew up in Leon and graduated from Central Decatur High School in 1983. She then attended Des Moines Area Community College for medical transcription. In 1986, she and her sister, Stacy, moved to Des Moines where Shelly did transcription for several area hospitals. Later she moved to Decatur, Iowa and worked for local medical facilities. Since 2014, Shelly loved her job working for Digital Transcript, Inc.

Shelly was in a relationship with James Thompson. They were blessed with son, Devin. Later she and Steve Sandage were in a relationship and were blessed with son, Josey. Steve took loving care of her the past several months.

In her free time, Shelly enjoyed spending time outdoors with family, especially her boys, and friends. In earlier years, she and her mom enjoyed sharing coffee and talks together. She liked music and watching the hummingbirds in her yard and the neighbor’s baby goats.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Lori Leonard; and the beloved family dog, Molly. Survivors include her sons, Devin Thompson and Josey Sandage, both of Leon, Iowa; sister, Stacy Greenland of Leon; nieces and nephews, Andrea Leonard of Lamoni, Iowa, Brett Leonard and fiancé, Brittni Hullinger of Davis City, Iowa, and Trinity Greenland of Leon; four great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, with Brad Speaks officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
