Wanda Lea Simpson, age 85, of Lamoni, Iowa, the daughter of Alva Oscar and Hazel Cora (Ross) Peace, was born July 15, 1937, in Mercer County, Missouri. She left this life on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at MercyOne Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wanda grew up in Mercer County and attended school at Princeton, Missouri, graduating in 1955. She married her sweetheart, Ronald Dale Simpson, while he was home on leave from the United States Army, on May 13, 1956. They made their first home together at Fort Lee, Virginia. After his honorable discharge a year a half later they moved to Chillicothe, Missouri. Wanda worked for Missouri Distributer and Ron at the Ford tractor dealer. Later they moved to Leon, Iowa where their sons, Kevin and Mark, were born. After a short stay in Osceola, Ron took a job at Grand River Mutual Telephone Company in Lamoni, Iowa, so they moved again. That job turned into a 35 year career. Wanda worked in the local fabric store, was secretary for Hynden Insurance and later for Baxter-Templeton Insurance.

In her free time, Wanda enjoyed sewing, gardening, visiting family and friends, and playing the card game, Pitch. She was secretary at her church, the Lamoni United Methodist Church, for a few years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant twin brother, Winton Dale Peace; and sister and brother-in-law, Bonneta and Robert Moore. Survivors include her husband, Ron Simpson of Lamoni, Iowa; sons, Kevin Simpson and wife, Donna and Mark Simpson, all of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2023, with Jim Lane officiating.  Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa.  Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Slade – O’Donnell  Funeral Home.
