Meet Barney! Our Pet of the Week!

***Green Hills Animal Shelter is offering a special, reduced adoption rate for a family who will adopt Lucas and Barney together!***

Today’s Pet of the Week is brought to you by the Green Hills Animal Shelter and is sponsored by Lamoni Veterinary Clinic.

Please meet Barney! Barney is a young, male Coonhound who is looking for a home of his own. Barney, who sports a gorgeous coat of black and white, came to Green Hills Animal Shelter with his brother Lucas, who compliments him perfectly with his handsome coat of red, chestnut and white.

Before coming to the shelter, Barney and Lucas had a home of their own. They had been rescued together as pups, but as they grew their owner was no longer able to care for them, so they relinquished them to the shelter so that they could find a new loving home or homes of their very own.

When Barney first arrived at the shelter he was quite nervous. After all, the shelter was full of strange noises and smells, and there was no one there he recognized other than his brother Lucas. But with gentle patience, love, kind words and treats, Barney discovered that the shelter staff and volunteers were his friends, and he has finally been able to settle in and let his personality shine.

Barney, like his brother Lucas, is a gentle boy who is quiet and sweet. He enjoys being with people and especially enjoys getting treats. Barney is also very playful and loves spending time in the shelter play yard romping happily with his brother and letting his amazing Coonhound nose take him on great adventures along the perimeter of the yard. Barney and Lucas are very bonded and love to do everything together. They would love to be adopted together, but we know that adopting two large dogs can be difficult, so they may be adopted separately.

If Barney could describe his perfect Forever Home, he would ask for a loving home with a family who will show him lots of love and patience while he settles into his new environment. He would love a securely fenced yard so that his Coonhound genetics don’t lead him astray, and he would also love to go on long leashed walks with his family where his exquisite nose is sure to lead you on grand adventures. Barney gets along well with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine sibling or two in his new home; and he would be especially happy if he could share his home with his brother and very best friend, Lucas.

Barney will go to his Forever Home neutered, de-wormed, heartworm tested and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies. He is a sweet boy who will be so happy to be back in a home of his own; could that home be yours?
