Pet Of The Week – Dixie

Please meet Dixie! Dixie is an Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix who is approximately 3-4 years old and loves people! She came to Green Hills Animal Shelter as a stray, so not much is known about her history, but what we do know is that she has stolen the hearts of all the staff and volunteers. This girl makes all of our hearts so full!

When you approach Dixie’s kennel, she always comes to meet you at the door and stares up at you adoringly. Her favorite things are cuddles and pet-pets, short walks, and hotdogs! She is quite food motivated and carries just a few adorable extra pounds.

Dixie interacts wonderfully with young children during visits at the shelter. She gets along with cats just fine and basically just ignores them and leaves them to do their own “cat things”. PEOPLE are Dixie’s thing!

If Dixie could describe her perfect Forever Home, she would ask for an indoor home where she could spend as much time as possible in the company of her family. She would love a family who would take her on walks and perhaps share a hotdog with her now and then. She would very much enjoy a home with children, and she wouldn’t mind sharing her home with a cat or two, but she would respectfully request that she be the only dog in her Forever Home as other dogs just aren’t Dixie’s thing.

Dixie will go to her Forever Home spayed, de-wormed, heartworm tested (she originally tested positive, but has completed treatment) and up to date on all vaccinations, including rabies. She’s had some great visits with prospective adopters, but so far has only made it to second place. We are all cheering for her at the shelter and know that she’ll be so much happier in a home where she can share her expert cuddling skills daily!

For more information on Dixie, or any of the pets waiting for their homes at Green Hills Animal Shelter, please phone the shelter at 660-359-2700, or stop by during open business hours.  We’d love to meet you … and perhaps you’ll take home a new best friend!
