Pet Of The Week – Ginger

Please meet Ginger!  Ginger is a gorgeous Treeing Walker Coonhound who came to Green Hills Animal Shelter in early November and immediately presented us with an interesting mystery.

Ginger was found in a church parking lot, and when she arrived at the shelter one of the first things staff noticed about her was that she had tattoos inside both ears.  Dogs are sometimes tattooed to indicate that they have been spayed or neutered (usually inside the left ear) or that they are microchipped (usually inside the right ear), but Ginger’s tattoos appeared to be identifying marks, and we hoped they would present clues to her identity. Unfortunately, after checking with local hunting dog groups, registries, and even the AKC, we were unable to identify the marks, and her tattoos still remain a mystery.

Ginger is young girl who appears to be only 1 to 1 ½ years old.  She is very sweet and friendly and loves everyone she meets. Ginger gets along well with other dogs, and her sweet nature would also make her a good fit in a home with children.  Like all hounds, Ginger has an amazing nose and delights in chasing smells; and Ginger also has a wonderful hound-dog bellow that would be the envy of any hound!

If Ginger could describe her ideal home, she would ask for a home where she would be a treasured member of her family and get to spend lots of time with her humans.  She would enjoy going on long, leashed walks where she could use her nose to lead her family on great adventures. Because she has an amazing nose and a hound’s instincts, Ginger will require a securely fenced yard so that she doesn’t go off on those great adventures on her own. She would very much enjoy a home with children and perhaps another dog or two, but Ginger would respectfully request a home without cats.

Ginger will go to her Forever Home spayed, dewormed, heartworm tested, and up to date on all her vaccinations, including rabies.  She will make a wonderful family dog, as well as a great outdoor companion; could you make Ginger’s wish of a Forever Home come true?
