Please meet Koko! Koko is a Lab-Shepherd mix who is about 7 years old, and who has been at Green Hills Animal Shelter since October 2017.
Koko’s personality is a tribute to both her breeds. True to the Lab personality, she is playful and affectionate and loves people; and like her Shepherd side, she is very alert, observant and protective, and will quickly let you know if something seems amiss, such as someone coming onto your property.
Koko has a special love for stuffed toys, and she loves to carry her “stuffies” around with her. She is very sweet with them and never tears them up, but treats them with great love and care. She also has a special love for people and she loves to give hugs.
Koko’s original owners told us that two of the things they loved most about Koko was her love of cuddling and also that she could instinctively sense when something was wrong, traits that we also see and love about her at the shelter. Koko was an indoor pet in her former home and was house-trained at the time. She is very smart and knows how to “sit” and “fetch” and would be happy to show you her skills and also to learn new tricks. Her previous owners told us that Koko can be a bit of a Houdini, so her Forever Home will need to have a secure fence, kennel or way to keep her safely home when she goes outside. And, while Koko is a brave, protective girl, she is fearful of thunderstorms.
As we said before, Koko loves people, and that very much includes children. She is friendly and playful with children, and also lovingly protective of them. She lived with other dogs in her previous home, and we encourage potential adopters to bring their current dogs with them to meet Koko so that they can be introduced. However, while Koko loves people, she is not good with cats and her forever home should be kitty free.
Koko has been at Green Hills Animal Shelter for almost 2 ½ years and would love nothing more than to find a Forever Home of her own. Her perfect home would be a place where she could be an indoor dog and spend lots of time cuddling and playing with her humans while keeping a loving watch over them. She has so much love to give, and she would love nothing more than to be able to share that love in a Forever Home of her own.
