Pet Of The Week – Lucas

Please meet Lucas! Lucas is a young, male Coonhound who is looking for a home of his own. Lucas, who sports a handsome coat of red, chestnut, and white, came to the shelter with his brother Barney, who compliments him perfectly with his gorgeous coat of black and white.

Before coming to Green Hills Animal Shelter, Lucas and Barney had a home of their own. They had been rescued together as pups, but as they grew their owner was no longer able to care for them, so they relinquished them to the shelter so that they could find a new loving home or homes of their very own.

When Lucas first arrived at the shelter he was nervous and scared. After all, the shelter was full of strange noises and smells, and there was no one there he recognized other than his brother Barney. But with gentle patience, love, kind words, and treats, Lucas discovered that the shelter staff and volunteers were his friends, and he has finally been able to settle in and let his personality shine.

Lucas is a gentle boy who is quiet and sweet. He enjoys being with people and especially enjoys getting treats. Lucas is also very playful and loves spending time in the shelter play yard romping happily with his brother and letting his amazing Coonhound nose take him on great adventures along the perimeter of the yard. Lucas and Barney are very bonded and love to do everything together. They would love to be adopted together, but we know that adopting two large dogs can be difficult, so they may be adopted separately.

If Lucas could describe his perfect Forever Home, he would ask for a loving home with a family who will show him lots of love and patience while he settles into his new environment. He would love a securely fenced yard so that his Coonhound genetics don’t lead him astray, and he would also love to go on long leashed walks with his family where his exquisite nose is sure to lead you on great adventures. Lucas gets along well with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine sibling or two in his new home; and he would be especially happy if he could share his home with his brother and very best friend, Barney. GHAS will offer a reduced adoption fee to a family who is willing to make sure these two friends get to stay together for life.

Lucas will go to his Forever Home neutered, de-wormed, heartworm tested, and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies. He is a sweet boy who will be so happy to be back in a home of his own; could that home be yours?
