Pet Of The Week – Oakley

Please meet Oakley! Oakley is a young Catahoula Leopard Dog mix who is only around 1 year old. Oakley came to Green Hills Animal Shelter at the beginning of July, after being abandoned along with two of her siblings. When Oakley first arrived at the shelter, she was so frightened that she shook from head to toe, and staff and volunteers had to pick her up and carry her to and from her kennel just to get her to go outside.  But, with lots of love and care, Oakley has blossomed. As she has learned to trust, she has become consistently braver, and she is now teaching her siblings to trust us as well, leading them by her example.

In her time short at the shelter, Oakley has gone from shy and scared to a certified cuddle-bug. She is gentle, mellow and sweet, and she loves people. She has a heart of gold, and she has stolen the hearts of everyone at the shelter with her amazing resilience.  Oakley is good with kids and she loves other dogs as well. She learns quickly and has mastered walking on her leash; and she now happily looks forward to those daily walks that used to be so frightening for her.

If Oakley could describe her perfect forever home, we believe she would ask for a home where she could be an inside dog so that she could spend as much time as possible with her forever family so that she feels safe and secure and continues to blossom.  She is very smart and anxious to please, and would enjoy continuing to learn obedience and tricks through praise-oriented training in her new home.  Oakley would also be happy to have the companionship of another dog in her Forever Home.

Oakley has been spayed, de-wormed, heartworm tested, and is up to date on all her vaccinations, including rabies.  She has come so far in a very short time, and she is now ready to continue her journey in a home of her own.  Could that home be yours?
