June Shain was born and raised in the Bethany area by her parents Olen and Verda Estep. She was the oldest of 6 children. She and a group of children would walk a mile to the Burton schoolhouse. She later graduated from Bethany High in 1941. She enjoyed cooking and playing the piano as a young child. She started playing piano at church at the age of 10. June played in many music contest and made it to the nationals at the age of 16 playing a 12th grade solo with 7 sharps, she recieved a number 2 rating.
June lost her first husband to the war and then remarried to Clarence Shain after the war in from Blythedale Mo. they raised 6 children. During their married life they lived in Washington State, Kansas City, Chicago Ill.,Denver Co. and California following his work with aircrafts. They settled back in Blythedale in 1984.
