Midwest State Patrols Release Speed Reduction Effort Results

Results from the effort undertaken by 5 Midwest State Patrols to reduce speeding in July has been released. The five State Patrols issued more than 33,000 speeding citations and removed 1,264 impaired drivers from the region’s roadways.

The Iowa State Patrol says over 7,800 speeding citations were issued. There were also 114 impaired driving and 686 seat belt citations. Summer is a high-traffic volume month for the Midwest and across the country.

Since January, the Iowa State Patrol reports 780 citations issued for speeds exceeding 100 mph. That’s a 113% increase over the four-year average. There is a 70 percent increase in citations issued for speeding over 25 mph or more over the posted speed limit.
