340B Program Can Save You Money on Prescription Medication

BETHANY, MO – One area hospital is providing area residents a chance to save money on prescription medication. Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany participates in the 340-B Prescription Drug Program. Pharmacy Director Kathy Sweat joined the NWMO Info Show last Saturday. She describes what the 340-B program does.

Prescriptions written at a participating facility, such as HCCH, including those in the emergency room or from a participating provider might qualify under the program. Sweat says patients can take their prescriptions to a pharmacy to see if they qualify.

Sweat says as a retail pharmacist she has seen patients costs on high-dollar products such as insulin drop from over five hundred dollars per month to thirty dollars for a three-month supply. Since the program depends on the government and drug-companies working together, Sweat said it is beneficial for people to contact their state and national legislators to tell them the importance of keeping the 340-B program.
