Audiologist Talks About Pros – and Only One Con – of Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids

(MISSOURINET) –  It’s been just over two weeks since people with hearing problems have been able to buy hearing aids over the counter without a prescription. Doctor Karen Melton is an audiologist from eastern Missouri’s Farmington. She says, though, that over-the-counter hearing aids are NOT a one-size-fits-all solution:

Melton says hearing aids are crucial not only to better hearing, but to improved mental and emotional well-being. She points out that people who have hearing loss and don’t do anything about it tend to isolate themselves from other people. Medically, she says hearing loss can increase the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
