Drought Monitor Shows Slight Improvement For Region

This year’s U.S. Drought Monitor for the region represented some slight improvement following a rain event earlier in the week.

All of Mercer County is now out of even pre-drought conditions. Putnam County remains free of any dryness concerns. There remains moderate drought for the eastern two-thirds of Harrison County, Gentry, Daviess, Worth, and most of Nodaway counties. Western Grundy County is also in Moderate Drought.

Southern DeKalb and Buchanan counties were upgraded from Moderate Drought to pre-drought conditions. Eastern Grundy, Clinton, and Caldwell counties are also in pre-drought conditions.

Taylor County in southern Iowa was also upgraded from Moderate Drought to pre-drought conditions. Other southern Iowa counties in our listening area remain in Moderate Drought.

Substantial rain is projected for the region between now and through the weekend which may significantly impact next week’s Drought Monitor.

The Drought Monitor is released at 7:30am each Thursday morning.
