Haslett Again Arraigned In Clay County

An Excelsior Springs man was arraigned in Clay County Court this morning (Friday) in relation to charges of kidnapping a woman and then sexually assaulting and beating her over the course of a month last year.

Excelsior Springs resident 40-year-old Timothy Haslett appeared in Clay County Court Friday morning to be arraigned once again on nine charges stemming from, the alleged kidnapping, raping and beating of a women last fall at his residence in the 300 block of Old Orchard Street in Excelsior Springs.

Haslett did not address the court during the arraignment but his attorney entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

Haslett faces one count of 1st-degree rape, four counts of 1st-degree sodomy, one count of 1st-degree kidnapping, two counts of 2nd-degree assault, and one count of 1st-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Those charges superseded the original charges from October 2022.

Clay County authorities refiled those charges after they discovered a technical and procedural issue with the grand jury that was impaneled from November 2022 until March 2023. The issue is not believed to present any prejudice or violation of the defendants’ constitutional rights.

Haslett’s next court appearance is set for April 24. He remains jailed on a $3-million bond.
