If You Buy a Vehicle at a Missouri Car Dealership, You Will Soon Be Paying the Sales Tax There

(MISSOURINET) – The sales tax you pay when you buy a vehicle in Missouri will soon be collected at the car dealership. Governor Mike Parson has signed a bill into law that will move away from the traditional practice of paying the bill at a driver’s license office at a later date. Representative Michael O’Donnell, who led this effort, expects most of the abuse on expired temporary license plates to go away…

Car dealers could roll the sales tax into the monthly car payments for buyers, instead of having car buyers paying a large lump sum down the road. A Department of Revenue estimate says the abuse has cost between 40-million and 80-million dollars in lost revenue.
