Independence Woman Seriously Injured in Clinton County Crash Monday

An Independence woman was injured in a Clinton County accident Monday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Northeast Stonum Road, one mile east of Lathrop, when a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Catherine M. Barefield was heading northbound.

Troopers say Barefield was transporting a cat that was getting out of its cage.

Barefield allegedly attempted to reach for the cat, went off the east side of the road, struck an embankment, traveled through two fences, rolled the vehicle, and ultimately came to a rest.

Barefield was taken to Liberty Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Troopers say Barefield was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
