MDC Hosting Arbor Day Celebration in St. Joseph

A free Arbor Day celebration is coming to Saint Joseph.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will celebrate Arbor Day and the value of trees with a free event from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 29, at MDC’s Northwest Regional Office in Saint Joseph.

MDC’s Northwest Regional Office is at 701 James McCarthy Drive on the campus of Missouri Western State University.

This program for all ages is an opportunity to learn about trees and take home native tree species to plant.

MDC forester, Lonnie Messbarger, says each household attending will be allowed to take home two free tree seedlings

Smokey Bear will be present to offer advice on preventing wildfires and will also be available for photographs with visitors.

Attendees will also find games, information tables, a planned trail hike, and other activities.

Registration is not required.

Visitors will need to observe COVID-19 safety precautions.
