Missouri Governor Requests Disaster Declaration For 33 Missouri Counties Resulting From Recent Storms

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has requested the approval from the federal government for a major disaster declaration and federal assistance for 33 counties in Missouri following severe weather during the July 29th through August 14th time period. The storms brought heavy rain, flooding, straight line winds, and tornadoes to the counties affected.

The State Emergency Management Agency has since documented the damage. The Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments estimated more than $14 million in infrastructure damage and emergency response costs.

Counties in the region included in the Public Assistance request include Gentry, Grundy, and Worth Counties.

If approved, local governments and qualifying nonprofit agencies may seek federal assistance for reimbursement of emergency response and recovery costs, including repair and replacement costs for damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure.
