Missouri Releases State Assessment Scores

Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released the math and reading assessments for 2022 from the 4th and 8th graders who took the tests. The National Assessment of Education Progress administered the tests, which had previously been administered in 2019. Missouri Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven says Missouri’s data indicated that the pandemic clearly impacted student learning and accelerated post-pandemic learning will continue for students.

Missouri’s Grade 4 math scores were 72 percent at or above basic levels. The national average was 73 percent. 19 states showed higher scores than those of Missouri. 5 states were behind Missouri. 25 states were not significantly different.

Missouri’s Grade 8 math scores were 61 percent at or above basic. The national average was 60 percent. 18 states showed higher scores than those of Missouri. 8 states were behind Missouri. 23 states were not significantly different.

Missouri’s Grade 4 reading scores were 60 percent at or above basic. That national average was 61 percent. 12 states showed higher scores than those of Missouri. 5 states were behind Missouri. 32 states were not significantly different.

Missouri’s Grade 8 reading scores were 67 percent at or above basic. That national average was 68 percent. 11 states showed higher scores than those of Missouri. 7 states were behind Missouri. 31 states were not significantly different.
