MO Senate Democratic Leader Says His Members Would Block Vote on Effort to Overturn Medicaid Expansion

(MISSOURINET) –  An attempt to overturn a voter-approved expansion of Medicaid could come up soon in the Missouri Senate.

A Senate committee has approved the proposed ballot measure.

Democratic Leader John Rizzo, of the Kansas City suburb of Independence, says if the Republican-backed proposal appears in the Senate, his members will block a vote.

House Budget Committee Chairman Cody Smith, who is sponsoring the proposal, says Missouri must prioritize Medicaid costs to prevent other government services from being cut.

Under the plan, adults who receive the government-funded healthcare benefits would also be required to have a job, volunteer, further their education or get treatment services.
