Mount Ayr Council Discusses Garbage Truck Repair

Mount Ayr’s Board of Aldermen approved taking out a loan for a new garbage truck and an overhaul of the old truck. The action came at a meeting Monday night.

The loan amount will be for no more than $165,000. The city has been looking for a new truck, but the city also lost a large part of their trade-in value for the former truck when the former truck fell into disrepair. The discussion of the matter Monday night centered around a decision about who to fix the old truck until a new one is purchased. In the end, the council decided to overhaul the old truck. The loan will be discussed further at the next council session.

City Administrator Brent Wise told council members that the Mount Ayr brush pile will need to be chained off and will have restricted hours. Surveillance cameras will also be installed. The brush pile has been lighted several times and smoke from the lights have created an odor nuisance. It also doesn’t comply with state regulations.

Mount Ayr’s council will receive an employee health insurance presentation at their next meeting.
