Princeton Board Makes Decisions On Day Care, Naming Rights

Princeton School Board members will not pursue the grant application process which would help finance a day care operated by the Princeton School District. Princeton’s Board voted 7-0 on the action on Monday night. The school district had been approached by the Mercer County Economic Area Development board about hosting, managing, and funding such a day care program. The school administration estimated an annual loss of $65,000 when determining the revenue and the expenses from the endeavor. The loss could be offset in the short term from a grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The school board does plan to revisit the proposal next year.

Board members voted down a motion to accept a donation from Danny Derry for naming rights to the baseball field that is part of the ballpark project ongoing at Princeton. That vote was 6-1 against the motion. Blake Boxley voted in favor of the motion. The board has previously discussed challenges of accepting the proposal. Those included recent donations for the project were accepted which did not include a chance for naming rights and a discussion about whether names of the current ball fields would be transferred. The board has discussed the possibility of a Wall of Fame at the concession stand to honor baseball and softball athletes, coaches, and contributors. With that option, the fields would be named numerically. The Princeton School Board did unanimously vote to provide possible policies to evaluate naming rights for school facilities. They also plan to continue working towards a solution regarding naming of facilities.

Princeton’s board accepted the resignation of Junior High and High School Principal Brent Mitchell and Junior High Math Teacher Lindsay Landis. The board hired Kaitlyn Bagley as a 3rd Grade Teacher. The board also approved probationary and tenure teaching contracts and extra duty assignments.

Princeton’s board approved steps for the salary schedule for certified staff and the wage schedule for non-certified staff. Salary changes will be considered in June.
