Public Service Commission Sets Intervention deadline in MAWC Takeover Of Stewartsville System

The Missouri Public Service Commission has set an intervention deadline on an application made by Missouri-American Water Company (MAWC) seeking a certificate of convenience and necessity to install, own, acquire, operate and maintain a water and sewer system in and around the City of Stewartsville.

According to the application, MAWC proposes to purchase all of the water and sewer utility assets of the currently unregulated City of Stewartsville system. The citizens of Stewartsville voted on November 2, 2021 to approve the sale with a 90-percent approval rate.

Missouri American says they will provide water service at the existing rates currently applicable to their St. Joseph service area until those rates are modified according to law. Sewer service rates would match that of their Trimble service area until those rates are modified according to law.

Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than June 10, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission. Individual citizens wishing to comment should contact either the Office of the Public Counsel or the Public Service Commission Staff.

Missouri American Water provides water service to approximately 470,000 customers in Missouri, and provides sewer service to about 16,500 customers in the state. The City of Stewartsville currently serves approximately 350 water accounts and approximately 350
sewer accounts.
