Push to Create Dolly Parton Literacy Program in Missouri

(MISSOURINET) – Country music singer Dolly Parton started “Imagination Library” in 1995 to inspire kids to read. Today, her program reaches five countries and gifts over one-million free books each month. Two Missouri legislative bills are designed to start her program within the state’s K-12 school districts for children ages birth to five years old. During a Missouri Board of Education meeting this week, member Peter Herschend of Branson said he supports the bills.

Under the bills, Missouri’s Office of Childhood would coordinate the effort with districts.
