St. Joseph City Council Votes In Favor Of Getting 27 New Police Vehicles

(ST. JOSEPH, MO) – Following an 8-1 vote in favor during a Tuesday meeting, the St Joseph City Council agreed to purchase 27 new police vehicles.

Those 27 vehicles being Chevrolet Tahoes, and the council also stated they will purchase 10 more in 2024.

The funding for these vehicles comes from the American Rescue Plan Act fund, and this purchase will utilize $2.8 million of the fund.

The local Fraternal Order of Police hopes the newer vehicles and a program allowing officers to take home the vehicles will assist in recruiting an understaffed department.

They also mentioned that a “take-home” vehicle program would lead to faster response times and improve officer accountability.

Twelve new police vehicles have already been purchased this year by the city of St Joseph.
