St. Joseph Police Department Receives Funding for Body Armor

The St. Joseph City Council approved a partnership grant with the U.S. Bureau of Justice for more than $11,000 this week.

Those funds will pay for half of the 20 bulletproof vests the city will purchase for the St. Joseph Police Department.

According to figures on the National Institute of Justice website, body armor has saved the lives of more than 3,000 police officers over the past three decades.

Vests reportedly have to be replaced every five years.
