Statewide Tornado Drill Set for This Morning
Severe weather preparedness week in Missouri kicks off today with a focus on preparedness. Spring can bring severe thunderstorms with strong winds, lightning, hail, and tornadoes and can result in flooding. Residents are urged this week to know the risks of these types of hazards. A different topic will be discussed all week so we can learn about the dangers, what to look for, and how to properly prepare.
Missouri State Emergency Management and the National Weather Service will conduct a Statewide Severe Weather Tornado Drill this morning at 10 am. The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill will conduct the drill. Local warning sirens and the NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio will be activated to signal the start of the drill.
The National Weather Service encourages everyone to participate by simply sheltering in place or discussing sheltering options and plans with co-workers and family members.
The purpose of the drill is to test everyone’s readiness for life-threatening severe weather events such as tornadoes, flash floods, and damaging winds. During periods of severe weather, it is advised to have more than one way to get information. This can include NOAA Weather Radio, radio, television, or internet access. Regional Radio will bring you up-to-the-minute coverage of any severe weather as it makes its way through the area.
