Today is Amber Alert Awareness Day

Since 2003, 117 Amber Alerts have been issued in Missouri and 137 children have been recovered safely.
Today is Amber Alert Awareness Day. Captain John Hotz with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the Amber Alert system was designed to coordinate the efforts of law enforcement, the media and transportation to safely recover children.
Captain Hotz describes recent improvements in the system to speed up the process of getting information to the public:
