Platte Valley Advances To MSHSAA Class 1 Baseball Championship Game, Maysville To Play For Class 2 Third-Place

The Platte Valley Baseball team will be playing for the Class 1 MSHSAA baseball championship Tuesday in Ozark, Missouri.

Monday afternoon, Platte Valley won their 18th game of the year and advanced to the championship game with their fifth postseason win. Platte Valley defeated Community High School 8-0 in the second of two Class 1 semifinals played in Ozark. Platte Valley had two batters reach in the first inning but did not score, but Platte Valley would get two runs in the second inning when they turned two singles and some Community errors into two runs.

Platte Valley extended by another two runs in the third inning with a triple by Memphis Bliley, an error, and another single by Brandon McQueen. That made it 4-0 after 2 and 1/2 innings.

Platte Valley got another two runs in the fifth inning when they reached on three infield singles and had a total of four singles in the inning and the lead extended to 6-0.

That was more than enough for Platte Valley’s pitching. Because of their pitching efficiency, Platte Valley will be fully armed for the championship game later on Tuesday. Memphis Bliley went the first two innings for Platte Valley, followed by Wyatt Miller, then Brandon McQueen, and Matt Jermain coaxed a double play that ended the game.

Platte Valley will face St Elizabeth in the championship game at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. The defending champion Hornets defeated Cooter 9-0 in the first Class 1 semi-final.

St Elizabeth defeated Platte Valley in the 2022 semi-finals. You can hear the game broadcast on can FM 95.5 later this afternoon.

A powerful Ash Grove offense scored 7 unearned runs in the first inning and comfortably reached the Class 2 MSHSAA Championship Baseball game. Ash Grove defeated Maysville 11-0 in the final game of the first day of the MSHSAA Baseball Championships.

The undefeated Pirates loaded the bases with a single, error, and walk in the bottom of the 1st inning. They would score consecutive single runs with 3 of the next 4 at-bats following an effort, infield single, and a hit batter got the runs in. The biggest blow came when number-9 hitter Cooper Burks hit a 3-run double. In all, Ash Grove scored 7 runs on 4 hits in the 1st innings. They were aided by 3 Wolverine errors.

Maysville managed just one base hit in the 5 innings in which they batted. Brock Mooneyham was the winning pitcher for Ash Grove.

Maysville is now 16-10 on the season. They will play the 3rd place game on Tuesday afternoon at 4pm against Chaffee. Chaffee fell to Salisbury 11-5 in the first Class 2 semi-final. That game broadcast can be hear on KKWK 100.1.
