Evelyn Jean (Taylor) Landes, age 90 of Ridgeway, MO passed away on December 21, 2023 after a short time on hospice at a Bethany, MO nursing home.

She was born on Christmas Day – December 25, 1932 in Harrison County, Missouri as the only child to Glenn Horace and Maudy Merle (Shoemaker) Taylor.

She grew up on farms in the Blue Ridge area and attended Bondurant and Blue Ridge country schools, Gilman City Grade School, and graduated from Bethany High School in 1950.

On November 6, 1955 she and Elden Landes, Jr were united in marriage by Preacher William “Bill” Smith in the Blue Ridge Christian Union Church.  They celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Junior, Evelyn, David and Gloria worked together on a diversified farming operation with livestock, dairy, poultry, hay, and grains.  Often young visitors enjoyed their farm as a petting zoo.  They hosted many sledding parties, card game nights, and attended school & church activities as the kids grew up.  Many good memories come from farming as a family with the help of others along the way.   After retiring from the farm in 1993, they moved to Ridgeway.

Evelyn always raised a large garden and several chickens.  She cleaned houses; sold eggs, strawberries, dairy products, and butchered chickens; and enjoyed sewing, canning, and cooking–especially pies and fried chicken (which she would not eat).  The family was honored as “Harrison County Farm Family of the Year” at the Missouri State Fair.

Evelyn accepted Christ at a young age at Old Nazarene Church of Blue Ridge and was baptized with her mother at Gilman City Baptist Church.  She was a member of Morris Chapel Community Church where she actively served through the years as Children’s Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Director, Ladies’ Group Leader, and on other committees.  Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23.

Evelyn often shared her faith in God, stating she had faced cancer five times, and the Good Lord saw her through all of them.  She was also proud to share a birthday with our Savior.

Evelyn is survived by son, David Landes (Peggy Thomsen) and daughter, Gloria Craig, both of Ridgeway.  Other survivors include grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) Matthew & Sydney Craig (Maisyn and Grant), Ridgeway; Blade Landes (Emma and Charlie), Bethany; and Kirk & Jessica Miller (Bradley, Avril, Grayson, Jaxson), Florida; plus nephews, nieces, cousins, and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Elden Jr., his parents Elden Sr and Edna (McCorkle) Landes, and his siblings Loren (Mary) Landes, Lila (John) Hendren, Gerald “Ed” (Ermadean) Landes, Wilbur “Brown” (Barbara) Landes, Bobby (Leta) Landes, Glen D Landes, and Margaret Landes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 30 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Morris Chapel Community Church in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O.
