King City, MO –  Opal Louise Bashor, daughter of Elvin and (Beatrice) Irene Bashor, was born November 8, 1960 at Barnes Osteopathic Hospital in King City, MO. She passed
away April 13, 2024 at LaVerna Village in Savannah, MO at the age of 63, after an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, brother Mike and a niece, Alaina Bashor, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by her brothers Elvin, Jr of Florida, Clark (Marsha) of King City, MO and Lyle of Wyoming. In addition, she is survived by eleven nieces and one nephew, along with many great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Opal graduated from King City High School in 1979 and attended college at Missouri Western in St. Joseph, MO and University of Colorado in Boulder, CO returning to Missouri Western to graduate with two degrees in social work and activities for the elderly. She worked as an Activities Associate in area nursing homes in St. Joseph and Cameron, retiring from Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron. She was also active in A.D.A.M. (Activities Directors Association of Missouri) for many years, serving as president for multiple years, receiving several awards for her service. Opal was an active member of Green Valley Baptist Church of St. Joseph. She enjoyed helping with the sound system during each morning service in addition to Wednesday and Thursday sessions. She loved her candy and the children that attended. She also enjoyed feeding the squirrels at her home and giving treats to the neighbor’s dogs. Those who knew her thought she was a kind and loving person. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 19 at the Green Valley Baptist Church, 3110 Cook Road, St. Joseph, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, King City, MO. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Friday. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Union Star Cemetery, Union Star, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Roberson Funeral Home, King City, MO.
