Pet Of The Week – Gunner

If you are looking for a loyal friend who is just the “bestest” boy, then you must meet Gunner! Gunner is a German Shepherd Dog mix who is the epitome of the loyalty, intelligence, and courageousness that makes the GSD breed so very special.

Gunner, who is only about 2 or 3 years old, came to Green Hills Animal Shelter in an unfortunate way; a person simply locked him and another dog in a crate and abandoned them, driving away and leaving them alone, scared and confused, and no doubt wondering why they had been left behind when all they wanted was to love a family of their own.

When Gunner first came into GHAS he was scared and a bit nervous, but he warmed up quickly and it didn’t take long at all for his sweet, loving personality to shine. He is a happy, playful boy who is full of energy and loves to go outside and play! Gunner is also very, very smart; he has already learned to “sit” and is quickly learning other commands. He is very treat-motivated, and we have no doubt that he could happily master just about any trick for a treat.

One of Gunner’s most endearing traits is that he has no idea that he is a large dog.  In Gunner’s mind, he is very much a lap dog! He loves being near his humans and wants to be as close as possible.  Gunner is the sweetest, most loyal boy ever, but because doesn’t realize quite how big he is, he would probably do best in a home with children who are a bit older so that little-bitty humans aren’t bowled over by his love.

If Gunner could describe his perfect Forever Home, he would tell us that he is looking for an active, loving family who has lots of time to spend with him and who will help him feel safe and loved for the rest of his life. He would very much enjoy getting to be an indoor dog with a large, securely fenced yard where he could go out to run and play. He would love to go on long, leashed walks, and with his youthful energy, he would most likely enjoy learning to be someone’s jogging companion as well.  Gunner would be agreeable to sharing his home with another dog, but he would respectfully request to meet them before adoption to make sure they will be the best of friends.

Gunner will go to his Forever Home neutered, de-wormed, heartworm tested, and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies.  He is a sweet boy who very much deserves a life filled with love; could you be his happily fur-ever after?
