Mildred Albaugh

Mildred Marcell (McDougal) Albaugh was born to William Roy and Bertha (Jennings) McDougal on April 23, 1935, in Mercer County, Missouri. She passed away on April 4, 2024, in Leon, Iowa.

She was raised on a farm and attended country school and then high school in Lineville, Iowa. After a family move, Mildred completed high school in Leon, Iowa graduating in 1952.

Mildred was united in marriage to Morris James Albaugh on February 25, 1956, and became mother to Marcell Jeannine Risius Moody and Ricky Morris Albaugh.

Mildred had an extensive work history, always willing to help out in any office, be it full time or part time employment. Work experience in her early years included Iowa State University in the food cafeteria and then secretarial work at Sears. Locally, Mildred held many different positions in the following businesses and offices: Farm Bureau, Decatur County State Bank (Citizens Bank and Great Western Bank), Decatur County Treasurer, Assessor, Auditor, and Magistrate’s Offices, Decatur County ASCS Office, O’Bryan Brothers Lingerie Factory, Decatur County Hospital, and Casey’s.

Mildred served as treasurer for the Leon Chamber of Commerce and the Leon branch of the American Cancer Society and volunteered with the cancer rehabilitation visitor program.

Mildred and Morris enjoyed rural life together, living first on a farm north of Decatur and then purchasing the farm near Leon where Mildred remained until 2018. They worked side by side on the farm as well as in the Phillips 66 business that they owned and operated from 1961 – 1989.

Favorite past times of Mildred and Morris were playing cards with friends and family, traveling, watching western movies, listening to country and western music, and roller skating. They could be found alternating between hosting and attending shared, extended family dinners nearly every Sunday, especially during bird hunting season.

Mildred was preceded in death by husband, Morris, in 1989; her parents; two brothers, one unnamed infant and Charles Edward; sister, Inez Smith and husband, Lloyd; sister-in-law, Ethel McDougal; parents-in-law, James and Zelma Albaugh; and brothers-in-law, Marion Albaugh and wife, Arlene and Max Albaugh and wife, Elaine. Mildred’s survivors include her children, Marcell and Ricky, and their families; and siblings, Kenneth McDougal, Loretta “Joan” Robison and husband, Bob, and Gerald McDougal and wife, Mary. Mildred enjoyed many friends, nieces and nephews, and other relatives, who will miss her greatly.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2024, with Pastor Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Leon Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
