Accident near Cameron Leaves Woman Minnesota Stranded in St. Joseph

An accident last Wednesday near Cameron has left a woman from Minnesota stranded in St. Joseph.

Janet Burger was on her way to a new life in New Mexico after losing some family members. She packed a 1998 Ford Conversion van with her seven cats and two dogs and set out from Minnesota.

Her plans were curtailed last week when she struck a guardrail outside of Cameron doing extensive damage to her van. She’s been living in the parking lot of a St. Joseph McDonald’s in her van with the air conditioning running for the sake of her pets.

She needs help to get the van repaired and for someone to care for the animals while the van is being repaired. the AFL-CIO has stepped up to help and they are asking the community for assistance.

The van needs body work and transmission repairs at a cost of around $5,000. For more information or to assist Burger’s cause call the AFL-CIO community services office at 816-364-1131.

Burger herself can be reached at 507-458-9051.
