Bethany Council Discusses Readiness For Move Of Bethany Depot Structure

Bethany City Adminustrator Jacob Taylor reported to Bethany’s Board of Aldermen Tuesday that Trevor Patton of Patton Structural will be meeting with the city to discuss the ground preparation necessary prior to the eventual move of the Bethany Train Depot to land located on the Israel property owned by the city. The report was part of a meeting Tuesday night. The new site for the Depot will be just south of the South Harrison High School campus across from Bulldog Avenue. The city has budgeted $100,000 for the site change. $50,000 of that cost will come from a physical move of the Depot which will be a late summer or early fall move conducted by Patton Structural. The route which will followed for the eventual move will be Beekman Street to Highway 69, then Bulldog Avenue, and eventually to 29th Street. A concrete pad will be poured at the new site. Donations are being accepted for the project and are currently being collected by the Bethany Chamber of Commerce. Any donations would be tax deductible. The city has discussed various levels to recognize contributors.

The city is also seeking someone who can perform welding work on the former West Side Bridge given to the city by Harrison County. The bridge will be placed at the low water crossing on the Israel property.

The demolition project on the northeast side of the square is nearly complete. Extra time was needed to take down the structure due to concerns about a collapse of the structure. Council members reviewed some examples of pocket parks which could utilize the space. Pocket parks have been utilized in the City of Maryville.

A 4-year contract for Gage Jones was approved by the council. He will be trained as an new electrician for the City of Bethany.

Junior Blessing was approved as caretaker of the Bethany Memorial Airport ground.

A bid from NTA Ambulance was selected for the Bethany Fire Department’s Fill Station.

The city also formally thanked Jerry Baker for the donation of a Ford Ranger for the Bethany Parks and Recreation Department.
