Bethany Wastewater And Sidewalk Grants Submitted

Bethany City Administrator Jake Taylor told Bethany’s Board of Aldermen during their meeting Monday that applications have been submitted for funding for a city wastewater project and a sidewalk construction program through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The wastewater funding will come from the American Rescue Plan. That application for $215,000 will fund blowers for the wastewater plant. The final approval for the funding is projected for October. The city is not sure of the timetable for a decision regarding their Transportation Alternatives Program for sidewalk construction through the Missouri Department of Transportation which would construct a sidewalk from Bethany Memorial Park to Bethany City Hall. If approved, the city’s grant funding would amount to just over $500,000 of a project estimated to cost about $627,000.

Todd Riley of Constellation Gas will attend the August 15th council meeting on future prospects for the city natural gas purchasing storage.

The city will not proceed with earlier plans to provide a potential low water crossing at the New Bethany City Reservoir Dam. Engineering work will be required for the work which will make it cost prohibitive at this point. The city may revisit the issue when they construct next year’s budget at the end of this year.
