Central Decatur School Awarded 21st Century Grant For After School Activities
Central Decatur School Board members approved contracts with Southwestern Community College for Educational Services during their April meeting. Those contracts included the Nursing Assisting Career Academy, Emergency Medical Technology, Welding Career Academy, Carpentry and Building Trades, Computer Networking and Information Technology Career Academy, and Online Arts and Sciences courses. The Southwestern Community College contract for Welding Technology, Applied Engineering Technology, Health Science and Carpentry and Building Trades will begin May 13th and run through August 4th.
Central Decatur’s School Safety Improvement Grant application for security cameras and door access control systems has been approved. The board awarded the project to Kidwell, Incorporated for the camera and door access devices and installation with the addition of Halo Sensors. The grant will provide $150,000 towards the project. The remaining funds will come the Capital Projects Fund.
A bid was approved from Brian Broich for a pole barn. The facility must be removed by June 1st. The board also approved the purchase of playground mulch from Chesnut Lawn & Landscape for the North and South Elementary.
The district has also been awarded the 21st Century Grant worth nearly $1.35 million dollars over the next 5 years. The grant provides aid for the district to provide before and after school activities for Kindergarten through 8th grades.
Central Decatur’s board also hired Colby Wilken for the Summer Weight Lifting position and Assistant Golf. Tim Casey was hired as Head High School Volleyball Coach. Misti Hearron was approved as the North Elementary Office Manager.
Central Decatur’s 2024 High School Graduation will be held Sunday, May 19th.
