Driver in Custody Following Pursuit in Nodaway County

Two Oak Grove residents were injured in Nodaway County Sunday night as they were fleeing law enforcement.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 19-year old Justin Aiton was on 330th Street at US 71 Highway, 2.5 miles west of Arkoe around 10 p.m. Aiton travelled off the right side of the roadway and struck a MoDOT sign. He then fled the scene after the impact and continued southbound on US 71 Highway. The vehicle crossed the median into the northbound lane before coming to a controlled stop.

Aiton and his passenger, 18-year old Lillian K. Beverly were taken to Mosaic Life Care in Maryville with minor injuries. Aiton was taken into custody on a 12-hour hold with preliminary charges of resisting arrest, driving while under the influence of drugs, speeding with speeds over 26 mph over the limit and other traffic charges. He was taken to the Nodaway County Jail pending formal charges.
