Funds on the Way for St. Joseph Police Department

The St. Joseph Police Department will receive more than $50,000 after a City Council vote approving the use of American Rescue Plan Act funds to purchase firearms for 37 police vehicles.

Each of those 37 vehicles will be outfitted with a police rifle and a less-than-lethal shotgun.

That bill passed with a unanimous 7-0 vote: an emergency measure to purchase a 2024 Chevy Tahoe for use by the department in the school resource officer program did as well.

The Police Department received almost $70,000 for that purchase, according to council documents.
