Lathrop Woman Seriously Hurt, Two Others Injured in Two Vehicle Crash Thursday

A Lathrop woman was left with serious injuries and two other individuals were left with injuries in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in Clay County.

Troop A of the Highway Patrol reports 24-year-old Lathrop resident Shelby N. MacEwen was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on Interstate 35 at the 17 mile marker at 3:20 Thursday afternoon when she attempted to change lanes and struck a 2015 Dodge Caravan being driven by 61-year-old Kearney resident Gina R. Walter.

Following the collision both vehicles left the roadway with MacEwen’s vehicle overturning several times before coming to rest. Walter’s vehicle struck a ditch and came to rest.

According to the accident report MacEwen was wearing a seat belt but still suffered serious injuries. An infant passenger in her vehicle was not hurt. Walter and her passenger Michael N. Walter were also wearing seat belts but minor and moderate injuries, respectively.

Everyone involved was taken by Liberty EMS to Liberty Hospital for treatment.
