Leon Jefferson Highway Dedication Attracts Governor Reynolds

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds was on hand for the dedication ceremony held in Leon on Friday for the designation of the Old Jefferson Highway as an Iowa Heritage Highway. The designation was one that was 5 years in the making.

The Jefferson Highway was the first hard surface road that stretched from north-south from Winnepeg to New Orleans.

The Decatur County Board of Supervisors served as the governmental sponsor for the effort to designate the Jefferson Highway. The Jefferson Highway will be recoginized with signage along the route. Grants obtained through Rotary Clubs have also financed 2 mural paintings in Leon and another in Lamoni.
