MDSS Cautions Of Identity Protection Following Third-Party Cyber-Attack
The Missouri Department of Social Services wants Missourians to be aware of the protection of their identity follow a third-party cyber-attack.
According to DSS, a data security incident occurred with a consulting service which provides software services to them. The MOVEit software service experienced the incident and impacted many organizations in the United States.
The department says medicaid participant protected health information may have been accessed by an unauthorized party in this security incident. The incident took place on June 2nd. DSS was notified on June 13th. DSS was able to obtain a copy of the files believed to have been accessed which are still being analyzed. Due to the size and formatting of the files, it will take time to complete this analysis.
The information involved may have included the individual’s name, department client number, date of birth, possible benefit eligibility status or coverage, and medical claims information.
Letters have been sent to individuals potentially impacted so that steps can be taken to protect personal information.
DSS encourages Missourians to review and/or monitor their credit reports during this time. Missourians can freeze their credit or request a free credit report from the three major reporting services.
