Missouri House’s Top Democrat Wants to Give Tax Credit to All K-12 Teachers

(Missourinet) The top Democrat in the Missouri House wants to give a tax credit to all K-12 teachers in the state.

Legislation filed by House Minority Leader Crystal Quade of Springfield would grant a one-time, five-thousand-dollar tax credit to teachers. Quade says in a statement, “we ask much of teachers in the best of times, but the demands placed on them during the pandemic have pushed many to the breaking point precisely when we most need them.” She notes that Missouri currently has an unprecedented budget surplus to cover the cost of the tax credits. The state has around 70,000 K-12 public school teachers.
