MO Department Of Agriculture Updating Rules For Foreign Ag Buyers Following Governor’s Executive Order

Enforcement of Governor Mike Parson’s new executive order adding restrictions to any future sales of roughly one-fourth of Missouri’s farm acreage will fall onto the state’s department of agriculture. Director Chris Chinn says her office is updating the rules for foreign buyers to reflect the directive released Tuesday.

Chinn says initial rules will be published on an emergency basis.

Missouri Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn adds that the updated guidelines will also go through a standard rulemaking process, including the opportunity for public comment. Governor Parson’s executive order bans entities connected with nations on the U.S. State Department’s list of foreign adversaries from purchasing farmland within 10 miles of a critical military facility.
