Mount Ayr Council Discusses Loch Ayr Water Service Request

Mount Ayr’s Board of Aldermen received the estimate for stormwater work within the city during a meeting on Monday night.

Mount Ayr’s Board received an estimate of $115,000 for stormwater work for Van Buren Street through Feldhacker Contracting, LLC. Because of the size of the estimate, the city will try to obtain a second estimate for the work.

Council members approved the application preparation for USDA Rural Development funding for their Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project. They also approved the Southern Iowa Council of Governments to review the Home Income Surveys that are part of a housing grant application process.

A request by the Southern Iowa Rural Water Association to provide more properties with city water at Loch Ayr Lake has been tabled until the city receives potential information on regulations from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The authorization was given for a $28,500 roofing project to be done by Andrew’s Roofing Company for the Library Roof Replacement.

The city will be moving forward in the process regarding nuisance properties for the city. A list will come before the city council at their early May meeting.

During public input, Gary Keplinger presented the results of research he has made regarding the benefits of an Indoor Pool and Recreation Center. He identified the Woodbine Crew Center as a project that has been undertaken by a community that is comparable to Mount Ayr’s size.
