MU Extension Feedlot School Planned in Trenton

MU Extension will host a feedlot school at North Central Missouri College in Trenton next month. The school, planned for Thursday, January 13th and Friday the 14th, will feature Extension specialists explaining the ins and outs of feeding cattle in Missouri.

Beef Nutritionist Eric Bailey says there is a renewed interest in feedlots due to new packing plants in and around Missouri. Bailey will update attendees on the results of the recent USDA-funded feedlot project at the Thompson Research Center. Producers will have the opportunity to tour three local confinement feeding facilities and view different scales of operation.

Other topics will include performance expectations, financing, insurance, and risk management.

More information on the feedlot school is available by contacting Shawn Deering with MU Extension at 660-726-5610 or Jim Humphrey at 816-324-3146.
