Smithfield Foods Joins Venture to Convert Methane Into Natural Gas
Smithfield Foods, Incorporated, Roeslein Alternative Energy, and TPG Rise Climate have announced a venture intended to capture and convert methane emissions into renewable natural gas in an effort to power homes, vehicles, and businesses.
TPG plans investment in creating Monarch Energy to use the technology developed by Roeslein Alternative Energy for the conversion process. The process was previously used during a partnership between Roeslein Alternative Energy and Smithfield Foods for an effort known as Smithfield Renewables that used the technology to convert methane emissions from their production facilities into natural gas which could be transported by pipeline.
Monarch Energy says their investment is intended to commercialize the Roeslein technology for large and small scale agricultural operations across the country.
