St. Joe Man Accused of Killing Daughter Dies From Self Inflicted Wounds

A St. Joseph man accused of beating his 6-year-old daughter to death has died from self inflicted wounds.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department reports 37-year-old Dustin Beechner died Monday from self inflicted wounds suffered late last week while in custody at the Buchanan County law Enforcement Center.

Beechner reportedly inflicted those wounds Thursday while in the protective custody area of the jail. He had been moved off of suicide watch just days earlier after an evaluation by mental health professionals.

Beechner reputedly received emergency medical treatment at the jail before being transported to Mosaic Life Care.

He succumbed to those wounds Monday morning.

Beechner’s body has been transported to the Jackson County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

The investigation into the incident is on going.
