A Saint Joseph man faces charges after a Sunday evening crash in DeKalb County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Highway 33 at U.S. 36, about a mile north of Osborn, as a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Matthew L. Pfleiderer drove southbound.

Troopers say Pfleiderer attempted to turn northbound onto Highway 33 as he was fleeing from officers, failed to negotiate the turn, and struck an embankment off the west side of the road.

Authorities say Pfleiderer continued northbound and was located two miles north of the crash site.

Pfleiderer suffered serious injuries and sought treatment at Mosaic Life Care.

Troopers say Pfleiderer was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Following the accident, authorities arrested Pfleiderer on preliminary charges of interfering with an arrest, careless and imprudent driving, and not wearing a seat belt.
